Hey everyone, welcome back. I’m Doctor Luong from Resilience Chiropractic here in San Leandro, and today we’re talking about something I’m really passionate about — chiropractic care for athletes and active adults.

Now, whether you’re a weekend warrior, a serious competitor, or just someone who loves staying active… this episode is for you. Because here’s the thing — your body takes on a lot when you move, train, and push yourself. And most people wait until something goes wrong before they think about taking care of their spine and joints. Today I want to change that.

Let’s start with something I hear all the time in my office. Someone comes in and says, “Doctor Luong, I’m not injured. I just feel a little off. My performance isn’t where it used to be.” And that right there — that’s actually one of the best reasons to come see a chiropractor. You don’t have to be in serious pain to benefit from care.

Here’s what’s interesting. Your nervous system controls everything — your coordination, your reaction time, your muscle function. And when your spine is misaligned, even slightly, it can create interference in that communication between your brain and your body. Chiropractors call these misalignments subluxations. And when we correct them, a lot of athletes notice they move better, they feel more balanced, and they recover faster. Not because we did anything magical — but because we removed something that was getting in the way.

Now let me break this down a little more. Think about a high-performance car. You can have the best engine in the world, but if the wheels are even slightly out of alignment, you’re going to wear down your tires unevenly, you’re going to pull to one side, and over time, the whole system starts to struggle. Your body works the same way. When your hips, your pelvis, your spine, and your shoulders aren’t moving in alignment — your muscles compensate. And those compensations lead to overuse, strain, and eventually injury.

Chiropractic adjustments help restore that proper alignment and movement. And when everything is moving the way it should, your body can do what it was designed to do — perform, recover, and adapt.

So what can you start doing right now? First — pay attention to asymmetry. If one shoulder sits higher than the other, if one hip feels tighter than the other, if you always seem to get sore on the same side — those are signs your body is compensating for something. Second, don’t skip your warm-up and cool-down. I know, I know — everyone says this. But honestly, so many of the injuries I see in active adults come from going from zero to a hundred without preparing the body. Third, prioritize sleep and recovery. Your body heals when you rest. Training breaks you down. Recovery builds you back up.

And here’s my gentle nudge — if you’ve been dealing with a nagging ache, limited range of motion, or you just feel like your body isn’t performing the way it should, come in and get evaluated. A lot of people are surprised by how much a thorough chiropractic assessment can reveal. We look at how you move, how your spine is aligned, where you might have restrictions — and we put together a plan that fits your lifestyle and your goals.
