Hey there, and welcome back. I’m Doctor Luong, and you’re listening to the Resilience Chiropractic podcast, coming to you from right here in San Leandro. Whether you’re a longtime patient or you just found us for the first time — I’m really glad you’re here.

Today we’re talking about something that affects just about everybody at some point. Mobility. Specifically, how chiropractic care can help you move better, feel less stiff, and honestly just enjoy your daily life a whole lot more.

Now, here’s what I hear all the time in my office. People come in and they say, “Doctor Luong, I just feel so tight. I can’t turn my head all the way when I’m backing out of my driveway. I used to be able to touch my toes — now I can’t even get close.” And you know what? That’s not just an age thing. That’s not something you just have to live with. A lot of the time, there’s a real mechanical reason for why that’s happening — and that’s exactly where chiropractic care can make a big difference.

So let me break this down for you. Your spine is made up of twenty-four moveable vertebrae. Each one of those segments is designed to move — to bend, to rotate, to extend. And when one of those segments gets stiff or restricted, it doesn’t just affect that one spot. It affects everything around it. Your muscles start compensating. Your posture shifts. Your hips, your shoulders, your neck — they all start working harder to make up for that stuck area. And over time, that compensation is what leads to pain, tightness, and that feeling of just being locked up.

Here’s what’s interesting — a lot of people assume that stiffness is a muscle problem. And sure, muscles play a role. But very often, the restriction is actually coming from the joints themselves. When a spinal joint isn’t moving the way it should, the surrounding muscles tighten up as a kind of protective response. Your body is smart. It’s trying to stabilize that area. But that protection comes at a cost — and the cost is your range of motion.

What chiropractic adjustments do is help restore movement to those restricted joints. When we apply a gentle, controlled force to a joint that’s not moving well, we’re essentially giving it a reset. We’re encouraging it to move through its full range again. And when that happens, the muscles around it can finally relax. The nervous system gets better input. And you start to feel that looseness, that freedom of movement, that you maybe thought was just gone for good.

Now, it’s not just about the adjustment either. At Resilience Chiropractic, we look at the whole picture. We talk about how you’re sitting at work, how you’re sleeping, whether you’re getting any movement throughout your day. Because if you’re sitting in the same position for eight hours and then coming in for an adjustment, we’re constantly fighting an uphill battle. Small changes to how you move — or how much you move — throughout the day can make a huge difference in how well your body responds to care.

Here’s some practical advice you can start using today. First, try to break up long periods of sitting. Every thirty minutes or so, just stand up, take a few steps, roll your shoulders back. It doesn’t have to be a full workout — just a reset. Second, pay attention to how you hold your head. If you’re looking down at your phone for long stretches, your neck muscles are working overtime. Bring the phone up to eye level when you can. Little habit, big impact over time.

And if you’ve been dealing with stiffness that just won’t quit — if you notice your range of motion has been declining, if you feel like one side of your body moves differently than the other — that’s worth getting checked out. You don’t have to be in severe pain to come see us. Catching a mobility issue early is always easier to address than waiting until it becomes a bigger problem.

Come on in, let us take a look, and let’s figure out what’s actually going on with your body. We’re right here in San Leandro, and we’d love to be part of your wellness journey.
