Hey there, and welcome. This is Doctor Luong from Resilience Chiropractic here in San Leandro. I’m really glad you’re tuning in today because I want to clear up some misconceptions about what chiropractors actually do. You know, I hear the same questions and concerns almost every day, and I get it. There’s a lot of confusion out there.
So let’s start with the biggest myth I hear. People think all we do is crack backs. Now, here’s the thing. Yes, spinal adjustments are a core part of what we do, but that’s just one tool in the toolbox. When you come to see me, I’m looking at how your whole body moves and functions. I’m checking your posture, your muscle balance, your range of motion. I’m asking about your daily activities, your work setup, your stress levels. It’s a complete picture, not just a quick pop and you’re out the door.
And speaking of that popping sound, let me explain what that actually is. That sound doesn’t come from bones cracking or grinding together. It’s just gas bubbles releasing from the fluid in your joints. Same thing that happens when you crack your knuckles. The adjustment itself is about restoring proper movement to joints that aren’t moving the way they should. When a joint gets stuck or restricted, it can irritate the surrounding nerves and muscles. That’s what causes a lot of the pain and stiffness people experience.
Here’s another big one. Some folks think chiropractic care is only for back pain. Not true. I work with people dealing with neck pain, headaches, shoulder problems, even issues with their hips and knees. Your body is connected. When something’s off in one area, it can create problems somewhere else. I’ve had patients come in for lower back pain, and we discover their hip mobility is the real culprit. Or someone with chronic headaches, and we find it’s actually tension coming from their neck and upper back.
Now, let me address the safety question, because I know some people worry about this. Chiropractic adjustments are incredibly safe when performed by a licensed professional. We go through years of specialized training to understand the spine, the nervous system, and proper adjustment techniques. Before I adjust anyone, I’m doing a thorough evaluation. If I find something that’s outside my scope or needs a different approach, I’ll refer you to the right specialist. Your safety is always the priority.
So what can you actually expect when you visit Resilience Chiropractic? First visit, we talk. A lot. I want to understand your history, your symptoms, your goals. Then I do a physical exam. We look at how you move, where you’re restricted, what hurts and what doesn’t. From there, we create a care plan together. Maybe that includes adjustments, maybe soft tissue work, maybe exercises you can do at home. It’s personalized to what you need.
Here’s my advice. If you’re dealing with pain that’s affecting your daily life, or if you’ve noticed your posture getting worse, or you just don’t move the way you used to, it’s worth getting evaluated. You don’t have to live with that discomfort. And you definitely don’t need to be scared of getting care.
I’m here in San Leandro, and I’d be happy to sit down with you, answer your questions, and see if we can help you feel better and move better. Thanks for listening today. This is Doctor Luong at Resilience Chiropractic. Take care of yourself, and I hope to see you soon.
